BUILDING ASSESSMENT
NYC DEPT OF HOMELESS SERVICES

Statiker Personnel led a tasking of providing a structural engineering survey of 62 DHS owned family shelter facilities in all five boroughs. The facility types ranged from the iconic to the mundane. Each building had different profiles and ranged in age from historically designated National Guard armories from the 1890s to recently build buildings in in 2004. We also had a multitude of structural systems and heating systems to contend with.  The structural systems ranged from masonry bearing systems with pre-cast planks from the 1990’s; steel framed buildings with concrete slabs from the 1950’s; to balloon framed roofing systems from the 1890’s. Additionally, our scope expanded to also review current and planned capital projects to give an accurate and up to date assessment. For our scope the team leader was given 35 calendar days to mobilize, survey and consolidate our results and report for use of DHS and City Hall.

We are pleased we completed the assignment on time and on budget and are proud of our work to help the agency make important and critical decisions for one of the most vulnerable populations in New York City
